Softball Sweeps Doubleheader at MacMurray

GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire softball team swept a doubleheader over MacMurray in their final action of the year.

Knox (10-26) finished with their most wins since the 2005 season after hitting the ball all over the yard. The Prairie Fire tallied 33 hits on the day to win 10-4 and 18-7. Knox scored two runs in the top of the first inning of game one, but the Highlanders came back with two of their own in the bottom half to knot the score at two. The Prairie Fire added a run in the second and another in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. MacMurray again came back to tie the game at four apiece with two runs in the fourth, but it was all Knox from there as they scored six unanswered runs and held on for the win.

The Prairie Fire took a commanding lead early in game two as they put eight runs on the board in the first inning. The Highlanders scored four runs in the third to bring the score to 9-5, but Knox kept up the hit barrage with nine more runs to cruise to victory.

Kristen Koviekis led the Prairie Fire with an 8-for-9 showing at the plate with six runs and three RBI. Kenzie Funk added five hits in eight at bats to go along with three runs and three RBI. Clare Hensley ended up with four base knocks and Casey Hipp, Katy Coseglia, Emily Stevenson, Tegan Doherty, Cammie Stein, and Valerie Froeming all turned in multi-hit efforts. Koviekis clubbed three doubles on the day, while Funk, Hipp, Stevenson, and Hensley each added one.

Koviekis picked up the win in game one, giving up just six hits and three earned runs in seven innings of work. Doherty earned her ninth win of the season in game two.
