Men's Soccer Runs Winning Streak to Five

GALESBURG, Illinois—The Knox College Prairie Fire men's soccer team beat the Buena Vista Beavers on Sunday afternoon by a whopping score of 7-0 at Jorge Prats Field. The Prairie Fire were thoroughly in control throughout the entire game, as evidenced by their domination in shots on target to the lopsided tune of 21-2.

Knox had several close chances in the opening minutes, including a header by Nick Janulis that narrowly passed over the top post, and a shot by Owen Keleher that was blocked by a Buena Vista defender. The intensity of the Prairie Fire attack created Knox's first goal in the 21st minute, which resulted from close a shot by Keleher that was parried by the Beaver keeper, only to be put away by Janulis.

After several more close calls in the next 15 minutes, the Prairie Fire scored again on a beautiful run by Jake Totty, who sprinted past multiple Buena Vista defenders and beat the keeper in the bottom right corner to make the score 2-0 in favor of Knox.

When the 2nd half began again, it was evident that the depth of Knox was too much for Buena Vista to handle. In the first ten minutes of the 2nd half, both Keleher and Janulis scored again. Janulis' was particularly impressive, as he beat the Beaver keeper and had the ball trickle into the back of the net all the way from the top of the box.

With the game appearing to have been decided by that point, the Prairie Fire continued to pour it on. Ashton Zeringue scored on an assist from Raphael Adeyemi, and Pedro Moura was true on a great cross from Carson Childs. When the game appeared to be winding down, the hard play of Yohane "YoYo" Griffin resulted in him drawing a penalty in the opposing penalty area. On his penalty kick, he struck a beautiful shot down the middle that pushed the final score to 7-0.

Knox College looks to keep their five-game winning streak alive as they travel to play Coe College on September 18.
