Men's Soccer Defeats Ripon 2-1

GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire men's soccer team defeated Ripon 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. Before the game the newly renovated Jorge Prats Field was dedicated.

Knox (7-2-1, 2-0-0) won their seventh straight and remains perfect in conference play.

The Prairie Fire and the Redhawks headed into halftime in a scoreless tie, but Alessandro Benelli converted a penalty kick in the 65th minute to five Knox the lead. Raphael Adeyemi added to the lead when he headed in a ball from Pedro Moura. Ripon responded in the 80th minute, but the Prairie Fire held on for the victory.

Knox outshot the Redhawks 25-1 on the day and held an 11-1 advantage in shots on goal.

"We didn't play our best today," said head coach Brian O'Connor. "Ripon was well organized, but we will need to put away more of our chances in the future."

The Prairie Fire return to action when they face nationally ranked St. Norbert on September 30 in a conference game.
