GALESBURG, Illinois – The Prairie Fire men's soccer team defeated the Beloit Buccaneers by a final score of 1-0 today. The win today gives them their fourth win of the season and their 10th win on the season. The team celebrated seniors Jun Min, Nick Janulis, Adetayo Adefioye, Tom Driscoll, Lawal Quadril, Kobe Carreno, Max Warren, Hima Elabd, and Santiago Medina after the game.
Knox showed that they came to play early on in the first half. Their offensive execution was superb in the first 10 minutes, as evidenced by the six shots they got off. Adetayo Adefioye and Jun Min provided some nice looks on goal, but unfortunately they were not able to convert. Knox's defense managed to hold the Buccaneers to just two shots in the first half as well, as they managed to retake the ball whenever Beloit tried to mount an attack. Despite excellent play on both sides, the score remained even at 0-0 at the end of the half.
In the second half, the Prairie Fire continued their blistering pace on the field. Knox put forth some impressive offensive displays, and kept the ball on the Beloit side of the field. They finally came through when Lucas Piqueras scored off a nice assist by Adefioye to put Knox up 1-0. Despite a late push by the Buccaneers, Knox managed to hold on to the victory.
"Beloit is a physical team and they showed it today," said head coach Brian O'Connor. "We had some good chances and Lucas had a nice goal to give us the victory."
Knox looks to continue their impressive run tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. at home against Lake Forest College.
