Box Score MONMOUTH, Illinois – The Prairie Fire men's soccer team defeated Monmouth 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon.
Knox played to a scoreless tie with the Fighting Scots through the first half, but Nick Janulis broke the tie with a goal 10 minutes into the second half.
Jun Min tacked on another goal in the 60th minute to give the Prairie Fire some cushion.
Knox outshot Monmouth 15-6, including a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal.
"Rivalry games are always tight and physical affairs," said head coach Brian O'Connor. "This game was no different. It was a tough game between two really good teams. Our guys persevered and stuck together. It was a great win and I could not be prouder of this team."
Knox returns to action on October 12 as they host Grinnell for the first home match of the season.
