Student-Athlete Spotlight: Spencer Bauer

2/5/2019 1:50:00 PM

Spencer Bauer '19 has long aspired to pursue a career involving his two great passions: law and sports. Bauer has been accepted into law school at Marquette, Creighton, Penn State, and St. Thomas (Minnesota). He would love to enroll in a Sports Law program with the goal of being general counsel for a Professional Sports Team or League, a sports agent, or work for a Player's Union in professional sports. Bauer has also considered business or commercial law.

Bauer grew up in Madison, Wisconsin and is a four-year member of the Prairie Fire baseball team and led the team with five home-runs as a junior. He is also involved in recruiting new students to campus as a tour guide for the Knox admissions team. Bauer is a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity where he has served as president and vice president in the past, and served three years on Student Senate.

Bauer believes Knox has put him in a great place to pursue his dream and has had a blast in the process. "Knox has a unique Pre-Law program, especially for a smaller, liberal arts school," said Bauer. "I have had Constitutional Law classes where we focused on actual court cases. Most schools don't prepare someone for Law School like Knox. I am in small classes and am constantly talking in front of people."

The people and relationships at Knox are what drew Bauer in the first place and why he knows he will succeed. "I talk to Pre-Law Advisor Lane Sunderland every week. He is a Supreme Court fellow and genuinely cares about me and wants me to succeed. The relationships I have built at Knox will last a lifetime."
