Baseball Falls to Mt. Union in Doubleheader

KISSIMMEE, Florida—The Knox College Prairie Fire dropped both games of their doubleheader against the Mount Union Raiders on Saturday. The losses move the Prairie Fire's record to 1-6 on the young season.

The Raiders started off the scoring during the first inning of game one with a delayed double steal, and also tacked on a run-scoring double. Two more errors drove in another run for the Raiders in the third, and while Knox scored a run on a Brendan Powers single in the top of the fifth, Mount Union drove in three more of their own in the bottom half. A hit by pitch and a sacrifice fly for the Raiders would provide the rest of the scoring for the game and create the final score of 8-1.

The second game proved tough for the Prairie Fire as well, as they only managed two hits against the tough Mount Union pitching. The Raiders used soft contact to score five runs in the first inning, but Knox's pitching held them to just one more run the next four innings. A Mount Union triple helped provide a four run outburst in the sixth inning and led to the final score of 11-0.

Dalton James picked up four hits in five at bats on the day. Adam Brown added a pair of hits.

"Mount Union is a good team," said associate head coach James Clark. "We had a few bad innings, but for the most part got better. Our goal right now is to get better every game and we are progressing nicely."

Knox's next game in their Florida tour comes against Central College at 1:30 pm CT.
