DUBUQUE, Iowa—The Prairie Fire men's tennis game dropped a very close 4-5 match at the University of Dubuque on Saturday.
Jared Schwarz defeated his #3 singles counterpart 5-3, 5-7, 10-6 and teamed up with Ajay Gustafson to win #1 doubles 8-7. Gustafson narrowly dropped his #1 singles match 7-6, 5-7, 8-10.
"It was a hard fought match," said Gustafson. "Our opponents played extremely well, but in the end it came down to mental toughness and Jared and I prevailed."
Kyle Yang and Oscar Sanchez defeated their opponents 8-3 at #3 doubles. "It definitely takes a lot of hard work," said Yang of his first collegiate victory. "I can't stop here because I have so much to improve upon."
Brad Newland also won by default at #2 singles. Dobbin Pine (6-7, 4-6) and Sanchez (4-6, 6-7) also played very close matches at #4 and #6, respectively.
Knox travels to Buena Vista on March 3 for their final match until after spring break.
