Softball Drops a Pair on Opening Day

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ROCHESTER, Minnesota—The Prairie Fire softball team dropped a pair on opening day at the ACM Dome Tournament in Minnesota.
 
University of Northwestern scored four in the bottom of the first inning in the first game of the day, but the Prairie Fire responded with two runs in the top of the second. After the Eagles added another run in the bottom half, Knox scored two more to bring the deficit to just one run. Northwestern tacked on another six runs over the next four innings to earn the victory.
 
In game two, Macalester plated five in the first inning and another four in the second inning to take an early 9-0 lead. The Scots added another run in the third, but Knox put a pair on the board in the bottom half. Macalester got one more run in the fourth and held on for the 11-2 win in five innings.
 
Britney Salinas got her career started in a big way when she ripped a two RBI, two-out single against the Eagles. Fellow first-year Sara Lynch also collected her first collegiate hit earlier in the same inning and scored a run on Salinas' single. Mady Ferris also got her first career hit in the Northwestern game. Kenzie Funk and Katy Coseglia also earned hits in the doubleheader.
 
Knox returns to action on March 3 with two more games in the ACM Dome Tournament. At 8:00 a.m. the Prairie Fire will battle Wisconsin-River Falls followed by St. Olaf at 10:00 a.m.
