Baseball Splits with Beloit

GALESBURG, Illinois – The Prairie Fire baseball team split a doubleheader with Beloit on Saturday.

Beloit took an early 3-0 lead in the first game, but Knox scored two in the fourth to cut the deficit to one run. The Buccaneers tacked on five runs in the top of the fifth to take a commanding lead, but Knox chipped away with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and another in the sixth. Beloit scored a run in the seventh and another in the eighth and the Prairie Fire pushed a run across in the bottom of the eighth. The Bucs held on to win 10-6.

Beloit scored a pair of runs in the second inning to take another early lead in game two, but Knox tied the game in the bottom of the fifth. The Bucs plated two in the top of the sixth to regain the lead. The Prairie Fire used a seven-run eighth inning to take a 9-4 lead and held on for the victory.

Juston Woodard led Knox at the plate with five hits and three RBI on the day. Dalton James, Brendan Powers, Matt Shover, and Chris McTeague each tallied three hits in the doubleheader.

EJ Roncone tossed a gem in the second game, allowing four unearned runs, seven hits, and zero walks while striking out six.

"We continue to improve in all facets of the game," said associate head coach James Clark. "It was nice to see some more offense today, the guys really stepped up after a good week of practice."

Knox will play host to Millikin on March 24.
