Box Score 2 JACKSONVILLE, Illinois—The Prairie Fire baseball team dropped a doubleheader with conference foe Illinois College on Saturday afternoon.
Knox scored first in game one when Dalton James knocked in Adam Brown in the top of the fourth inning. The Blueboys struck back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead. The Prairie Fire attempted a rally in the ninth, but Chase Thies was robbed of a potential game-tying hit by the Blueboys' center fielder.
Knox scored first again in game two with a sac fly by Brendan Powers driving in Juston Woodard in the top of the first. Knox added to their lead with runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to take a 7-1 lead. Illinois College battled back with nine runs in the seventh and eighth innings to take the lead. The Prairie Fire once again mounted a rally, but a liner snagged by the Blueboys' third baseman snuffed the comeback attempt in the ninth.
James ended the day with five hits in eight at bats. Woodard and Ben Bucher each picked up three hits as well.
"We battled all day, but IC just played a bit better than us overall today," said associate head coach James Clark. "We only have one conference weekend left, but we are still right in the thick of the race."
Knox will look to get back on track when they host Eureka on April 22.
