ROCKFORD, Illinois—The Prairie Fire men's golf team competed in the first and second rounds of the Midwest Conference Championship on Friday after the first round was postponed on Thursday.
Knox shot a first round 311 and improved to 308 in round two to trail St. Norbert by just four strokes heading into the final round on Saturday.
Senior Duncan Wheeler paced the Prairie Fire with a first round 74 and second round 71. His two round total of 145 leaves him tied for first overall.
"It was a very up and down day, however I am proud of the team for gutting it out when things were very rough starting out," said head coach K.C. Harding. "If we want to have a chance tomorrow we will need a good performance from the entire team. Duncan played a great round of golf and deserves to be atop the leader board. He has been on the verge all season, so I am happy that it all came together today and I know he has what it takes to do it again tomorrow."
Knox will try to make up four strokes as they look to capture their 30
th conference championship in the last year in the league.
