Baseball Falls to #8 WashU

GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire baseball team dropped a doubleheader to #8 Washington University – St. Louis on Saturday afternoon.

The Bears scored a run in each of the first three innings in game one to take an early 3-0 lead. WashU added three more runs in the sixth and another in the seventh, but Knox scratched across a run in the bottom of the seventh to get on the board. The Bears scored again in the eighth and held on for the 8-1 victory.

The Prairie Fire held the Bears scoreless for the first four innings in game two, but WashU pushed across a single run in the fifth to take a 1-0 lead. The Bears added five unearned runs in the eighth and held on for the 7-0 win.

Juston Woodard and Brendan Powers each tallied two hits on the day for Knox.

EJ Roncone gave up one earned run in eight innings in game two. He allowed four hits and a walk and notched five strikeouts.

"We played very well at times today against a very good, nationally ranked team," said associate head coach James Clark. "We made some mistakes in key situations and WashU took advantage of those mistakes. We can learn a lot by watching them."

The Prairie Fire will travel to Eureka on May 5 to conclude their season.
