BELOIT, Wisconsin - The Prairie Fire softball team dropped a pair of games at Beloit on Sunday.
The Buccaneers plated a run in the bottom of the first inning of game one and added two in the second inning to take an early lead. A four-run sixth inning sealed a 7-0 victory for Beloit.
The Buccaneers scored three runs in the first two innings again in game two, but Knox battled back with two runs of their own in the top of the third inning. Beloit tacked on a run in the bottom of the third, but the Prairie Fire responded with a run of their own in the top of the fourth. The Buccaneers added a run in the fifth inning and held on for the 5-3 win.
Kenzie Funk and Cammie Stein led Knox at the plate with three hits apiece. Funk plated a run with a double in the second game. She also scored a run earlier in the game. Casey Hipp and Haylee Carpenter each added a pair of hits.
"We really rallied back in game two and just left a few too many runners on base, but everyone was putting the ball in play and making good heads up defensive plays," said head coach Erin Rutledge. "I am excited to get back on the diamond tomorrow against Monmouth."
Knox returns to action as they host Monmouth on April 12.
