Baseball Drops MWC Openers

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Jacksonville, Illinois—The Prairie Fire baseball team fell to Illinois College in a doubleheader on Saturday to begin their conference season.
 
Knox plated a run in the top of the first inning in game one, but the Blueboys scored three in the bottom half to take an early lead. Illinois College added a pair of runs in the third and fifth innings, while the Prairie Fire scored one in the fourth and two in the sixth to keep the score close. The Blueboys tacked on four runs in the seventh inning to seal an 11-4 victory.
 
Illinois College scored one run in the bottom of the first in game two, before opening the floodgates with seven runs in the third inning. The Blueboys added five more runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to take a commanding 16-0 lead. Illinois College held on for the seven inning victory.
 
Ben Bucher had a big day at the plate for the Prairie Fire with three hits, including a pair of home-runs and four RBI. Flynn Hersh also added three hits, including a double. Nick Piller tallied a pair of hits on the day as well. Matt Shover added a double.
 
Knox returns to action as they travel to Monmouth on April 11.
