Prairie Fire Student-Athlete Spotlight: Emma Art (McCormick)

Emma Art (McCormick) is a junior member of the women's soccer team. Over her three years at Knox she has played center back, outside back, outside forward, and even some outside midfield. Emma intends to major in Biochemistry with a minor in Chemistry. Emma is also the President of Blessing in a Backpack which is a volunteer organization within the Galesburg and Knox community.  
 
1. What is your favorite Knox memory?
Freshman Year Halloween! Had so much fun with all my friends and teammates, especially being able to hangout in person makes it even more special.
 
2. What is your favorite all-time memory playing your sport?
Getting to the NCAA tournament and getting treated to hibachi all together.
 
3. What do you love most about your sport?
It keeps me disciplined with my school work and gives me an automatic two hour window to be with my best friends.
 
4. What do you like least about your sport?
Not being able to eat hot Cheetos before practice/games...
 
5. How has your experience with your sport changed over time?
It has taught me how to appreciate every single moment we get to have on the pitch together, especially after COVID and waiting 518 days to step on the field against an opponent. 
 
6. Why did you choose Knox?
Division three school allowed me to play the sport I love and focus on my academics. Knox's STEM programs are awesome.
 
7. What do you love about Knox?
The faculty really support my success and it encourages me to keep on my classes while learning so much every single day.
 
8. If you could travel/live anywhere in the world where would it be?
 I've always wanted to go to japan to see how their country functions after hearing about how courteous everyone is in public. I also love sushi and have seen how beautiful it is. 
 
9. What has changed most from being a high school student to being a college student?
Having to keep up with myself as much as my academics, getting food is just as important as getting good grades I've learned.
 
10. What do you like most about Galesburg/Galesburg Community?
There's always something positive going on in the community and it is definitely a change from the desert.
 
11. If you could play any sport (that you do not already play) what would it be? (does not
have to be a sport at Knox)
I wish I had the hand/eye coordination to play basketball. I've also always wanted to try fencing!
 
12. What advice would you give your younger self knowing where you are today?
Take a deep breath and focus on your goals, enjoy your existing friendships and stay excited about those coming!
 
13. What do you enjoy most about Division 3?
That classes come first. I came to this school to learn as much as possible and get a good degree, playing soccer is just an awesome privilege I get to enjoy every day. 
 
14. What is your favorite movie?
Zootopia mesmerizes me. 
 
15. What is your favorite band/artist?
Have to say either Anderson Paak or Frank Ocean
    
16. What is one tip you would give an incoming FY?
Stay humble and work hard. Work hard beats talent when talent doesn't work hard!!
