LAKE FOREST, Illinois - The Prairie Fire men's soccer team dropped their first round matchup 4-3 to Lake Forest in the Midwest Conference Tournament on Friday.
Joel Sanchez put Knox on the board with an assist from Adrian Segura in the 23rd minute. The Prairie Fire would take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Segura scored a goal of his own in the 61st minute on an assist from Derrick Apholz to put Knox up 2-0.
The Foresters responded with a goal of their own in the 73rd minute, but Alex White gave the Prairie Fire some cushion on another assist from Segura.
Knox looked to be in control with a two goal lead heading into the final minute of the game, but Lake Forest pulled off a stunning comeback with two goals to tie the game and send it to overtime.
The teams played a scoreless first overtime period, but the Foresters struck again in the first minute of the second OT.
Lake Forest outshot the Prairie Fire 20-15 overall, including a 12-8 advantage in shots on goal.
Knox goalie Nicolas Lantzendorffer picked up seven saves in the game.
"We played a great game for 89 minutes," said head coach Kevwe Akpore. "Unfortunately we got disorganized in the final minute of the game and let our emotions get to us when we took the lead. Credit to Lake Forest for not giving up and continuing to bring it at us."
The loss ended their season, but the Prairie Fire made the Midwest Conference for the ninth consecutive season.
