GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire softball team dropped a home doubleheader to Eureka on Friday afternoon.
Knox trailed just 2-1 heading into the fifth inning of game one, but gave up five runs in the fifth to fall 7-3.
In game two, the Prairie Fire led 5-3 heading into the top of the seventh inning. The Red Devils scored six runs in the seventh to claim a 9-5 victory.
Britney Salinas led Knox with four hits in eight at bats on the day. Lacey Miller added three hits and three RBI. Miller had a pair of doubles and Taylynn Kizer, Maya McEwen, Morgan Bean, and Casey Hipp each doubled as well.
Mimi Schweitzer toed the rubber for the Prairie Fire for most of game one and gave up just two earned runs in 6.1 innings.
Leila Rouhani gave up two earned runs in five innings as the game two starter.
"We had them beat both games if we just execute," said head coach Erin Rutledge. "Eureka is a perfect example of what we can accomplish if we execute and get hot. Eureka won their first game of the year and lost nine in a row, but now they have won five straight games. We are capable of going on a similar run when we put it all together."
Knox will travel to Grinnell on April 3 to kick off conference play.
