GALESBURG, Illinois - Division III Week is a positive opportunity for all individuals associated with Division III to observe and celebrate the impact of athletics and of student-athletes on the campus and surrounding community. During the week of April 4-10, every Division III school and conference office was encouraged to conduct a type of outreach activity that falls into one of three categories: academic accomplishment; athletic experience; or leadership/community service/campus involvement.
The Knox College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted a variety of events throughout the week.
They started the week with a team-based scavenger hunt with members of the softball team winning.Â
They also did Show Your Prairie Fire Pride day on Tuesday, fostering school spirit. They also had team and action photos on the video monitors, as well as team photos on banners, in the Hard Knox Cafe to promote our teams through advertising and social media.
The end of the week featured an obstacle course in the field house with teams competing against each other. The teams celebrated after the event with ice cream.
"This was a great opportunity to celebrate our student-athletes and teams by providing a fun group event," said SAACÂ President Casey Hipp..
Throughout the week, members of Prairie Fire teams also took to social media to tell their stories of why they chose to attend a Division III college, and more specifically, Knox College. Answers ranged from pursuing the holistic student-athlete experience to the relationships developed.
Division III Week is part of Division III's Identity Initiative, which was introduced in 2010 to sharpen the division's identity and to enable schools and conferences to more effectively explain why they prefer to compete in Division III. The initiative has been guided by a strategic-positioning platform, describing Division III as a place where student-athletes can "follow your passions and develop your potential," within an approach that combines rigorous academics, competitive sports and an opportunity to pursue other interests.
