RIPON, Wisconsin - The Prairie Fire softball team fell to Ripon 13-5 and 7-3 on Friday afternoon.
The Redhawks scored eight runs in the first two innings of game one to take an early lead. Knox rallied for five runs in the fifth inning, but Ripon responded with five runs of their own in the bottom half to win in five innings.
The Redhawks plated three runs in the first two innings in game two. The Prairie Fire scored a run in the third inning, but Ripon came right back with one in the bottom half. The teams again traded runs in the fifth inning before the Redhawks added two more in the sixth. Knox added one more run in the seventh inning to drop game two.
Britney Salinas led Knox with four hits on the day. She doubled, tripled, and drove in three runs. Maddie Poetzinger added three hits, including a double.
"We are not playing at 100% right now," said head coach Erin Rutledge. "We are battling, but just have too many lingering injuries that make it tough to be our best. I am proud of the team for fighting through and making both games close until the very end."
The Prairie Fire return to action on April 21 as they travel to Lawrence.
