JACKSONVILLE, Illinois - The Prairie Fire baseball team fell 11-3 and 13-4 at Illinois College on Tuesday afternoon.
The Blueboys scored five runs in the first two innings of game one, but Knox rallied back to a 6-3 deficit in the top of the sixth. Illinois College scored five more runs in the last three innings to earn the victory.
The second game was scoreless through three innings before the Blueboys broke through for three runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Prairie Fire responded with two runs in the top of the fifth on a Cole Shepherd sacrifice fly and an EJ Roncone single. Illinois College hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth, but a Cole Tanner two RBI single in the top of the sixth knotted the score at 4-4. The Blueboys tacked on a run in the bottom of the sixth and then erupted for eight runs in the eighth to put the game away.
Chris McTeague and Evan Laws each tallied three hits on the day for the Prairie Fire. Tanner knocked in three runs.
"We were right there with them in the middle innings of both games," said associate head coach James Clark. "IC is a very good hitting team and they made us pay when we made mistakes. We get to play them again next week, so we'll battle and see if we can't take one game from them."
Knox returns to action on April 21 as they host Monmouth.
