Baseball Falls in Series Finale to Ripon

GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire baseball team dropped a conference game to Ripon 21-6 on Sunday.

Ripon plated one run in the first inning and then erupted for eight runs in the second inning to take an early lead. Jason Clark hit a solo home-run in the bottom of the second to put Knox on the board, but the Redhawks added two runs in each of the third and fifth innings. Ripon added eight more runs in the final two innings to really put the game away. The Prairie Fire scored two runs in each of the last two innings, but still fell in seven innings.

Clark, Evan Laws, and Brayden Bathgate each tallied two hits for Knox. Laws doubled and Ben Bucher also homered and drove in three runs.

"We really let the game get out of control with some errors in the second inning," said associate head coach James Clark. "With the wind blowing out, giving Ripon any extra chances was costly for us. We had some good performances, but couldn't put it together as a team."

Knox will look to rebound as they host Monmouth on April 26 for a continuation of a previously suspended game. The Prairie Fire lead 3-1 heading into the top of the sixth inning.
