GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire softball team fell to Cornell 9-0 and 3-2 in a Midwest Conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.
Knox and the Rams played the first two innings of game one scoreless, but Cornell broke through for nine runs over the next three innings to end the game after five innings.
The Prairie Fire plated a pair of runs in the first inning of game two to take an early lead. The Rams scored a run in the second and a run in the fifth to tie the game and send the game to extra innings. Cornell scored a run in the eighth and Knox left the tying run on second base to end the game.
Britney Salinas tallied three hits to lead the Prairie Fire on her birthday. Maddie Poetzinger also added a pair of hits.
"We were so close in game two," said head coach Erin Rutledge. "It was great to see Britney have another great day, especially on her birthday."
Knox returns to action as they host Monmouth on April 30 for senior day.
