ROCK ISLAND, Illinois - The Knox Prairie Fire baseball team fell 9-0 against the Augustana College (IL) Vikings this Tuesday in Rock Island. The loss gives them a 6-26 record for the season.
While the Prairie Fire largely contained the damage done by the Vikings to only a few innings, that damage was enough to thoroughly bury Knox. After a quiet top of the first inning, Augustana scored three runs in the bottom of the frame, thanks in part to multiple errors for the Prairie Fire. Poor fielding would doom the team on the day, as the team ended up committing six errors while suffering misplays on several other chances. Augustana would not do much offensively until the fourth inning, when they drove in another four runs to make it a 7-0 ballgame.
For their own part, Knox had their moments on offense, but were unable to take advantage of the chances they had. EJ Roncone led the team with a 2-for-4 performance in the leadoff spot, but with no extra-base hits in the game for the Prairie Fire, it proved difficult to drive in runners in scoring position. Another two runs in the eighth for the Vikings effectively sealed the game for Augustana.
Knox will head into their final homestretch when they host the University of Chicago this Thursday.
