GRINNELL, Iowa - The Prairie Fire baseball team defeated Grinnell 8-6 on Sunday afternoon to win the series. It is the first series win over the Pioneers since the 2013 season.

Grinnell plated a run in each of the second and third innings, but Knox scored one in the fifth and three in the sixth to take the lead. The Pioneers responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth, but Knox used a pair of two-run homers by Ben Bucher and Cole Tanner to put up four runs in the eighth. Grinnell scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth, but Ira Moore nailed down the 3.1 inning save in relief of winning pitcher Nick Henning.

Kendall Ballman and Etienne Thomas each notched two hits apiece to lead the Prairie Fire. Bucher drove in three runs.

"It was nice to win a series to end the season," said associate head coach James Clark. "We know we can compete when we play well and we certainly did that this weekend. We will look to continue improving next year."
