WINTER HAVEN, Florida - Knox softball ends their final day of gameplay in Florida with two losses to University of Minnesota Morris and Washington and Jefferson College.
The Prairie Fire gave up four runs in the first two innings against Minnesota Morris, leaving them chasing a few runs early on. In the bottom of the third inning Knox plated one run closing the gap a bit. It was a constant back-and-forth battle between the two teams, each adding a few more runs as the game neared the end. The Prairie Fire ended a close game with a 5-4 loss.
Washington and Jefferson College opened the gate with a run in the first inning and continued to add runs, scoring at least one run each inning for the remainder of the game. The Prairie Fire fought back, but just a bit too late in the game. Knox scored in three of the seven innings, and ended up losing a tough game 11-5.Â
Eileen Sheetz and Haylee Carpenter led the Fire in the batter's box with four hits each for the day. Lacey Miller led the team in RBIs with four.
"Our bats are really coming alive." says head coach Erin Clark. "We have a few things to work out, but we are right there. I am excited to get back home and get to work."Â
Knox softball will travel back to Galesburg on Tuesday and begin to prepare for their games at Eureka on March 29.
