Softball Drops a Doubleheader Against Greenville

GALESBURG, Illinois - Prairie Fire softball dropped a pair of non-conference games to Greenville University this afternoon.

Game one started with a scoreless first two innings. In the top of the third inning Greenville broke through with a couple of big hits and with that plated four runs. The Fire attempted to rally back in bottom of the inning, but unfortunately left three runners on with no runs scored. Again, Greenville produced another big hitting inning in the top of the fifth. Greenville scored five additional runs and ultimately won game one 9-0.

Game two started similar to the first with a scoreless two innings. Greenville scored three runs in the top of the third. Knox worked to string together some hits and they did just that in the bottom of the fourth. Junior, Maya McEwen, batted one in leaving the score at 3-1 going into the fifth inning. The Fire held Greenville to only one additional run for the remainder of game two. Knox was unable to produce any additional runs of their own and lost game two 4-1.

McEwen led with two hits for the day. Ally Hyde, Tina Vargas, Maddie Poetzinger, Maddie Hicks, and Liv Dunn all tally one hit for the day.

"Greenville had some big bats, and ultimately out-hit us today" stated head coach Erin Clark. "We are hitting the ball hard and I know that if we continue to do that, we will find some gaps. I am proud of our bounce back in game two and I'm excited to be back on our field this weekend".

Knox will continue play on April 15th for a home conference match-up against Ripon at 1:00 and 3:00 P.M.
