MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The Prairie Fire baseball team dropped the series finale to Cornell 15-5 in eight innings on Monday afternoon.

Knox struck first when Jason Clark singled home Cole Shepherd in the top of the first inning. The Rams tallied five runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead. The Prairie Fire chipped away at the lead with two runs in the top of the third, but Cornell plated a run in the bottom half and three more in the fourth. The Rams added two more in the sixth before Knox score their final run in the seventh. Cornell scored four runs in the eighth inning to seal the early victory.

Clark and Holden Jones led Knox with three hits apiece, each knocked a double in the game.

"We got a little unlucky in a couple innings where the bloopers just fell in for Cornell," said associate head coach James Clark. "We left the bases loaded four times throughout the game as well, so we definitely didn't do ourselves any favors."

Knox returns to action as they travel to Illinois College on April 18 for the first game of the season series.
