GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire baseball team dropped their season finale 21-11 to Grinnell on Sunday. Before the game, Knox honored five seniors for Senior Day. Brayden Bathgate, Ira Moore, Braden Ogden, Tucker Sams, and Jacob Verduin all played their final games as members of the Prairie Fire baseball team.
The Pioneers scored four runs in each of the second and third innings and built up a 10-0 lead after the top of the fourth. Knox pushed across a run in the bottom of the fourth and five in the fifth to bring the game within striking distance.
Grinnell responded with 6 runs in the top of the sixth, but the Prairie Fire scored five in the seventh thanks to a grand slam by Joe Williams.
The Pioneers scored five more runs over the final two innings to earn the victory.
Williams and Evan Laws both tallied two hits to lead the Prairie Fire.
"We fought back multiple times in this game offensively, but we walked too many batters to stay in the game," said associate head coach James Clark. "Hopefully we can use the offensive outburst as a jumping off point for next year as we'll need to be better with the bats if we want to win games."
