GALESBURG, Ill. — The Knox College athletics department announced its Male and Female Athletes of the Week for events played between Oct. 7-13 with Thomas Lyaudet of the men's golf team and Darby Wallig of the women's soccer team claiming the honors.
Lyaudet, a first-year player from Santiago, Chile, was in command throughout the Central Fall Classic last week, carding a 70-71—141 (-3) to earn medalist honors in the 70-player field. The rookie sank seven birdies over the 36 holes in addition to his second eagle of the fall. Lyaudet was also named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Golfer of the Week for his performance. For the season, he boasts the lowest stroke average for Knox and third-lowest in the SLIAC at 72.88.
Another first-year player, Wallig was terrific in goal last Tuesday against Midwest Conference rival Illinois College, which entered the game with a record of 8-2-2 on the season. The native of Wendell, North Carolina, faced eight shots from the Lady Blues and saved each one, recording her first career shutout to earn the MWC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. This fall, Wallig has an .837 save percentage and a 2.26 goals against average. Those numbers are even better against the Midwest Conference with an .846 save percentage and 1.33 GAA.
The Knox Athletes of the Week will be announced every Tuesday afternoon throughout the athletic calendar.
