CLERMONT, Florida - The Knox softball team dropped two games on Tuesday afternoon for their third day of play in The Spring Games. The Prairie Fire dropped game one 6-3 against Smith College, and dropped game two 11-4 to SUNY Brockport.
The Knox softball team came out quick with a single run in the top of the first inning with a single and RBI from Taylynn Kizer to take an early lead against Smith. The Prairie Fire plated two more runs in the top of the second with another RBI from Kizer and one from Maya McEwen.Â
The Pioneers scored four runs in the bottom of the third and plated an additional two runs in the fifth to secure the win.
Brockport scored four runs in the first inning, and did not score again until the fifth inning with three more. The Prairie Fire attempted to chip away in the fifth inning with two runs thanks to RBIs from Janet Lentini and Morgan Bean.
The Golden Eagles score four more in the fifth taking an 11-2 lead. Knox attempted to close the gap with two more runs in the sixth, but ultimately fell short.
Kizer led the Prairie Fire with four hits on the day and two RBIs. Maddie Hicks added three hits.
"We are learning every game, and I am happy to see that we are making adjustments as our time here in Florida progresses" said Head Coach Erin Clark. "Overall we need to work on scoring more consistently throughout the game. We are definitely making solid contact, but we are leaving too many runners on base and falling short in some big game-changing circumstances."Â
The Prairie Fire will continue play in The Spring Games on March 21st for two more games against Worcester State University and Keuka College.
