GREENVILLE, Illinois - The Prairie Fire softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games to Greenville University on Friday afternoon. Knox fell 16-3 in game one and 15-0 in game two.
The Panthers came out quick in game one with six runs in the first inning. Greenville continued on with seven more runs in the second, taking a 13-0 lead going into the third inning. The Prairie Fire managed to put one run on the board in the third as Liv Dunn crossed the plate on a passed ball. The Panthers plated two more in third and an additional run in the fourth. Knox attempted to stay alive in the fifth with two runs across the plate, but ultimately fell short.
The Panthers scored first in game two with a single run in the first. Greenville continued to bat around, scoring six runs in the second, three in the third and five more in the fourth.
Dunn led the Prairie Fire with four hits on the day. Maddie Hicks, Janet Lentini, and Maddie Poetzinger tallied two hits each.Â
"Greenville is a big hitting team, and all in all they just outhit us today" said assistant coach Casey Hipp, "We are still working on achieving our overall goal of being more consistent on both sides of the ball, and although we had some good moments today, we need more of them in order to keep our momentum pushing in the right direction,"Â
The Prairie Fire softball team will continue play on April 6th with their first conference match-up of the season as they travel to Ripon College.Â
