Softball Plays Their Final Home Doubleheader of the Season

GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire softball team dropped two games in their last home doubleheader of the season against Monmouth, Game one ended in six innings with a score of 8-0 and game two ended in five innings with a score of 12-3.

The Scots came out quick in the first inning with three runs, Monmouth continued their scoring streak into the second inning plating two more runs, and also into the third with another solo run. The Scots were able to seal the deal in game one with two more runs in the sixth. The Prairie Fire left six runners on base in game one, unable to capitalize on any scoring opportunities.

After a quick first inning with with no runs scored the Scots came out in the second inning with a bang scoring seven runs. The Prairie Fire attempted to close the gap with two runs of their own in the second inning. Monmouth responded in the third inning with two more runs. Knox once again attempted to rally with bases loaded, and managed to score one run thanks to a walk drawn by Kylie Thomson. Monmouth scored two more in the fourth, and kept their lead to take the victory in game two.

Londyn Nelson and Maddie Poetzingers led the Prairie Fire with three hits a piece.

"Not our best day, we were lacking a bit in energy and overall just weren't aggressive enough in our game-play" said coach Casey Hipp. "Had some good moments, but jut lacking in some consistency. We are learning from today and looking on to our last doubleheader against Ripon."

The Prairie Fire will return to action on May 4th as they travel to Wisconsin for their final two games of the '24 season against Ripon College.
