KANSASVILLE, Wis. — Junior Pranav Nandakumar and first-year Thomas Lyaudet each carded a 2-under 70 in the second and final round of the Midwest Region Fall Classic at Brighton Dale Golf Course, lifting the Knox men's golf team four spots in the standings into 14th in 44-team field at 21-over par. Carthage College, bolstered by a blistering 13-under 275 today, won the event at 10-under par, nine strokes ahead of Wheaton College.
Nandakumar played a steady round with four birdies and 12 pars, shaving six strokes off his score in the first round to climb 52 places on the leaderboard into a tie for 25th out of 244 entrants at 2-over par (146). Lyaudet, meanwhile had a little more exhilirating round with five birdies and an eagle, helping overcome three bogeys and a double. He improved by nine strokes and jumped 78 places on the board into a tie for 58th with a 5-over 149.
The Prairie Fire's opening-round leader, first-year Diego Carrillo, struggled on the front nine but was 2-under on the back to finish with a 76 (+4) today, matching Lyaudet for the tournament at 5-over.
- Both sophomore Nathaniel Zug and junior Gabriel Newman recorded a 5-over 77 today, with the former wrapping up at 9-over for the two rounds and the latter 16-over.
- Carthage had the top two players in Tanner Angelstad (-7) and Alex Lilly (-6). Lilly had the low round of the weekend with a 7-under 65 today thanks to eight birdies and an eagle.
Next up for Knox is the University of Wisconsin-Stout Invite, which begins on Sunday, Sept. 29.
