GALESBURG, Ill. — The Knox College athletics department announced its Male and Female Athletes of the Week for events that took place over the previous three weeks (due to the holidays), between Dec. 16 and Jan. 5, with a pair of juniors earning the honors in Cole Andrews of men's basketball and Kylee Callahan of women's basketball.
In the three games during the time frame, Andrews averaged 13.3 points and 4.0 rebounds while shooting 40 percent (8-of-20) from long range. But the 6-5 forward from Rochester, New York, performed his best in the 74-73 victory over Simpson College on New Year's Eve to help the Prairie Fire snap a seven-game skid, producing 18 points thanks to a career-high five 3-pointers in nine attempts. He also snared five rebounds and stole the ball once in 30 minutes of action.
Callahan, a 5-8 guard from Tucson, Arizona, was one of three women's players to average at least 18 points a game in the three contests over the past three weeks, providing a team-best 18.3 ppg while shooting 59.0 percent (23-of-39) from the floor. Twice she topped 20 points, helping Knox defeat both Aurora University (season-high 22 points in an 85-77 win) and Benedictine University (20 points in a 77-63 triumph). In addition, Callahan added 5.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game.
The Knox Athletes of the Week will continue every Tuesday afternoon throughout the athletic calendar.
