ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — The Knox College cross country teams ran in the Augustana Interregional Invitational today in preparation for the Midwest Conference Championships, which take place in two weeks. The Knox men placed 22nd in the Blue level 8K race out of 32 participating schools, while the women took 25th of out 28 in the 6K.

While senior Lance Miller was the top finisher for either Prairie Fire squad, running the race in 25:55.8 to claim ninth out of 440 entrants, it was first-year Elsie Conwell on the women's team who ran a personal best 25:15.8 in the 6K, which left her in 87th out of 326 runners.

Three other Knox women ran season-best times — junior Cecilia Goodin (26:40.1, 149th place), sophomore Mary Stockwell (28:56.6, 240th place) and senior Eileen Sheetz (29:05.4, 243rd). On the men's side, senior Elliott Varnum could also make that claim, finishing in 287 place with a time just under 30 minutes at 29:56.6.

  • Top-ranked Unviersity of Wisconsin-La Crosse on the men's gold race with No. 2 Wartburg College right on their heels.
  • Those two schools were reversed for the Blue race with Wartburg having five of the top 11 runners to counteract UW-La Crosse's winner.

The Midwest Conference Championships will take place at Cornell College on Saturday, Nov. 1.
