GALESBURG, Ill. — The Knox College athletics department announced its Male and Female Athletes of the Week for events that occurred between April 7-13, and a pair of sophomores earned the prestigious honor — Cecilia Goodin of the women's outdoor track and field team, and Nicholas Nitti of the baseball team.

Goodin, a distance runner from Gibson City, Illinois, ran in the women's 1500 meter open race at the Mustang Distance Carnival & Open hosted by Mount Mercy, and crossed the finish line ahead of the other runners to take the gold. Her time of 5:22.01 was a little more than four seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, senior teammate Franny Hilliard, as well as a season best.

Hailing from Elk Grove Village, Illinois, Nitti was a force at the plate for the Prairie Fire, helping them win two of three at Monmouth, the team's first series victory over the Fighting Scots in eight years. The designated hitter went 7-for-13 (.538) in the three games and saved his best for last after the rivals had split the doubleheader on Saturday. Nitti had four hits, including two doubles and his first career homer, scored three runs and drove in three. Twice he broke a tie score, the second time for good in the eighth inning as Knox went on to win, 10-9.

The Knox Athletes of the Week will continue every Tuesday afternoon throughout the athletic calendar.
