GALESBURG, Ill. — The Knox College athletics department announced its Male and Female Athletes of the Week for events that occurred between Aug. 29 and Sept. 7 with the honors going to senior Lance Miller of the men's cross country team and first-year Eliana Juarez of the women's soccer team.
Miller, a native of Mascoutah, Illinois, opened the 2025 season by earning a spot on the podium at the Bob Schultz Invite hosted by Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, on Aug. 29. The 2024 runner-up at the Midwest Conference Championship completed the 5K course in 15:27.1, good for third overall. This was his fifth career top-three finish for the men's cross country team.
A local product from Galesburg High, Juarez provided not just one, but two game-winning goals over this past weekend as the Prairie Fire evened their record to 2-2. The rookie broke scoreless deadlocks in the second half of each contest, sending Knox to a 1-0 victory in the home opener against Aurora University on Saturday, followed by a 2-0 road win at Coe College on Sunday. The goals were the first of her career and doubled the Prairie Fire victory total from a year ago.
The Knox Athletes of the Week will be announced every Tuesday afternoon throughout the athletic calendar.
