The Knox College softball team remained unbeaten at home this season, sweeping Maranatha Baptist on Saturday by scores of 14-1 and 21-1. The Prairie Fire are 4-0 in Galesburg, 5-7 overall, and are next in action on Sunday, visiting Westminster College in a doubleheader.
Building on their strong start, the Prairie Fire recorded 22 walks total in the two games, using a keen batting eye against wild Sabercat pitchers.
In the opening game, Knox continued their dominance by scoring eight runs in the first inning and five in the second, coasting to the five-inning run-rule win.Â
Maria Olivas had four RBI and two hits, while Kara Burwell, Taylor Goudschaal, and Zoe Abbott each had two RBI. Goudschaal added a pair of hits.
On the mound, Abbott picked up the win by striking out eight and allowing two hits.
In the second game, the script was similar as Knox started strong early. The Prairie Fire scored seven in the first and 11 in the second, running away from Maranatha Baptist early.
With four RBI and two hits, Chelsea McKee helped pace the win. Olivas, Maddie Hicks, Cheyanne Merkel, Janet Lentini, and Goudschaal all chipped in with two RBI apiece.Â
Victoria Torres pitched five innings, striking out eight and giving up two hits for the win.
