The Prairie Fire baseball team (5-24, 3-9 in the Midwest League) battled hard on the road Wednesday but fell in a tough Midwest Conference contest to Beloit, 12-3.
Knox gears up for more home action this weekend, set to take on Lawrence for an exciting doubleheader Saturday and a Sunday matchup.
The Prairie Fire struck first at the top of the opening inning—Thomas Wilmot's single drove in Hayden Derlein to ignite the game. But Beloit quickly answered back, putting up three runs in their half and claiming the lead.
Beloit tacked on runs in four straight innings, but Knox didn't back down, rallying for two in the seventh to keep things interesting.
Andrew Garrett scored on a wild pitch, and Tyler Kemp then singled home Buckie Zamora. However, Beloit answered by scoring five in the bottom of the inning, retaking control.
Derlein and Zamora came up big with two hits apiece for Knox, fueling the offense.
