Gabe Moreno (Galesburg, Illinois) recorded top five finishes in both the 5K and 10K races at the conference meet May 13 and 14 at Monmouth College, earning him the last Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award of the spring 2011 season. 

Moreno's time of 15:42.61 in the 5K, which scored four points for the Prairie Fire men, is #5 on the All-Time Top Ten Performance list and #5 on the All-Time Top Ten Individual list. He moved up five spots on the individual list by besting his previous fastest time of 16:13.83. Moreno placed fifth on the first day of the meet in the 10K with his time of 33:33.27.

The Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award is the fifth for Moreno in 2010-2011.

Colin Davis (Canton, Illinois) tossed a six-hitter to help lead his team to a 9-4 win against Illinois College in the last game of the season May 7 at Blodgett Field. The latest recipient of the Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award for his efforts, Davis threw a complete game and allowed only two earned runs while striking out five.

The Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award is the second Davis has won during the season and the third by a baseball player.


Week (33) -May 4, 2011

Junior Bobby Stuebi (Western Springs, Illinois), who shot a 79 in all three rounds at Aldeen Golf Club for an overall score of 237, moved up from 8th place aft0er two rounds to finish in a tie for 4th.

Stuebi helped the Prairie Fire capture its second straight 3rd place finish at the MWC meet. His efforts have earned him the Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award.

Stuebi's Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award is the first for a men's golfer this year.


Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (32) - April 27, 2011

  • Sport: Baseball

  • Hometown: Hoffman Estates,  IL

Smoy (Hoffman Estates, Illinois) went 3-for-6 at the plate with a home run, four RBI, four walks and four runs scored to help the Prairie Fire defeat the Fighting Scots 7-6 and 14-4 - avenging a pair of one-run losses in Monmouth April 17.

Smoy reached base four times with a pair of hits and two walks while scoring a run in a come-from-behind win in game one. He added a grand slam home run in the fifth inning of game two to go along with two walks and three runs scored in the game two victory. Hitting in the number two spot in the order, Smoy had a remarkable .600 on base percentage.

Smoy is the second baseball player to win the Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award during the 2011 spring season.


Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (31) - April 20, 2011

Eisha (South Wilmington, Illinois) had a week to remember at the plate and on the mound.  For the week, Eisha batted  .467 (6-for-13) with two RBIs and five runs scored in her last four games. She also  scored the three wins the Praiare Fire picked up (one versus Eureka, two versus RMU). 

Eisha was three outs away from tossing a no-hitter in the first game of the doubleheader against Robert Morris. She blanked the Eagles through six innings before surrendering a double to the lead-off hitter in the top of the seventh inning that broke up her no-hit bid.

The Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award is the first for Eisha. 

Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (30) - April 13, 2011

  • Sport: Women's Golf
  • Year: Senior
  • Hometown: Schererville, IN

DeMory (Schererville, Indiana) had great finish to her college career at Knox. At the Knox College Spring Invitational, she carded a second-place finish. The next day at at the Monmouth College Spring Invitational, the final regular season meet of the spring season, Jessica walked away with the win.

The Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award is the second DeMory has earned during the 2010-11 season. She also won it October 5 following the Midwest Conference tournament.


Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (29) - April 6, 2011

  • Sport: Men's Tennis
  • Year: Junior
  • Hometown: Littleton, CO

Hane (Littleton, Colorado) accounted for two victories March 31 to help lead the Prairie Fire to a 7-2 Midwest Conference win in the squad's home opener against Illinois College.

The Fire's team leader and #1 singles player, Hane defeated I.C.'s Mike Evans 6-2 and 6-1, one of five singles match wins by Knox against Illinois College. The other victory Hane had a hand in was an 8-3 triumph by he and sophomore Shaun Mulani (Bourbonnais, Illinois) against I.C.'s #1 doubles team of Evans and Colin Ladd.

Hane leads the Prairie Fire in singles victories and shares a 7-5 record with Mulani in doubles play

This is the first Prairie Fire Performer of the week award for Tennis and Hane.

Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (27) - March 23, 2011

The Prairie Fire's ace had a great start to the season in Florida, going2-0 with an impressive 2.38 earned run average. Left-handed batters also struggled against him, hitting only .167.

Davis was the opening day starter against St. Joseph's College (NY). He earned the victory after throwing 5 1/3 innings and allowing just one earned run and seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Knox won the game 10-7.

The team finished the week with four wins and five losses. 

This marks the first time the baseball team, coached by Jami Isaacson, has won the Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award this season.

The Prairie Fire's sprint medley relay team set a new school record with its time of 4:19.81 at the 2011 Midwest Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Grinnell College.

The foursome of junior Kristi Weller (Cullom, Illinois), senior Claire Knowlton (Westlake, Ohio), senior Chloe Bohm (Lake Forest, Illinois) and junior Emma Swanson (West Des Moines, Iowa) broke the previous Knox record time for the sprint medley relay of 4:20.69 set in 1999 during the MWC Championships hosted that year by Knox College.

This marks the fourth time the indoor track and field teams, coached by Dan Zierfuss, have had a Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award winner this season.


Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (25) - February 23, 2011

Eric defeated three opponents -- two of them seeded -- at Saturday's NWA Tournament hosted by Concordia University. The top seed in the 149 pound weight class, Steingruber proved the #1 seed he received was deserved as he claimed the conference title. 

This is Eric's first Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award.


Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (24) - February 16, 2011

Matt finished first in the 800 meters during last Saturday's Knox Open, and in doing so, entered the record books for the second time this season.

Brongo finished the race in 2:01.32, topping the second-place finisher by nearly a full two seconds. Brongo is now #7 on the men's indoor track and field Top 10 Performance list and #5 on the Top 10 Individual list.

This is Matt's first Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award.


Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (23) - February 9, 2011

Choate's performance at the Jim Green Invitational earned him the Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award.  His time of 16:22 in the 5000 meter run during the meet hosted by Illinois College placed him 10th on the all-time Knox College Indoor Track and Field Individual Top 10 list.

This is Choate's first Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award.


Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (22) - February 2, 2011

Haskell was named the Prairie Fire Performer of the Week after a remarkable three game stretch. She averaged 23.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.0 steals and 5.3 assists, which included a near triple-double at home against Illinois College: 26 points, a school record11 steals and nine rebounds.

This is Haskell's second Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award.
Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (21) - January 26, 2011
  •  Name: Tanner Carlson '12
  • Sport: Men's Basketball

  • Hometown: Annawan, IL

Carlson was named the Prairie Fire Performer of the Week and the Midwest Conference Player of the Week after he had a rare triple-double.  He scored 11 points, dished out 14 assists and grabbed 11 rebounds in an 89-86 double overtime loss at Lawrence University.  The Prairie Fire's point guard then poured in a career-best 28 points the next day at Beloit College, which included 16-of-18 free throw shooting.

This is Carlson''s first  Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award. 


Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (20) - January 19, 2011

Moreno broke the school record with his time of 4:35.08 in the Mile during the Knox Invitational, the first meet of the 2011 indoor track and field season January 15 at T. Fleming Fieldhouse.

Moreno also made his way onto a pair of all-time Top 10 lists for men's indoor track and field in the 3000 meter run. His time of 9:17.13 is the ninth best performance and seventh best by an individual.

This is Moreno's fourth Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award.  He was a recipient three times during the cross country season.

Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (19) - January 12, 2011

Vaca defeated all four challengers he faced at 133 pounds, at the 6th annual Chuck Porter Invitational. He beat Francisco Acosta of the University of Chicago, Jesse Feeler of Hannibal-LaGrange University, Chris Reed of Loras College and Oscar Trujillo of Wabash College to complete his undefeated day.

This is Vaca's second Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award.


Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (18) - January 5, 2011
  • Name: Jenny Haskell '11
  • Sport: Women's Basketball
  • Year: Senior
  • Hometown: Murphys, CA

Haskell scored a career high 31 points at Buena Vista University, which is the third highest point total in a game by a Knox College women's basketball player. She sank 12-of-22 shots from the floor, including a three-point basket, and connected on 6-of-7 free throw attempts against the Beavers.

Haskell, who was also named the Midwest Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, is averaging 19 points over her last three games.

This is Haskell's first Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award and it marks the third straight week a women's basketball player has received the honor.

Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (16) - December 22, 2010

  • Hometown: Evanston, IL

Williams scored a combined 35 points (17.5 average), had 20 rebounds (10.0 average), shot 54 percent from the floor and 82 percent from the free throw line in last week's games.

After five Midwest Conference contests, Williams has cracked the Top 10 in three categories: #10 in scoring (12.4 ppg), #4 in rebounding (8.2 rpg) and #8 in shooting (47 percent).

This is Williams' second Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award.


Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (15) - December 15, 2010
  • Name: Krystyna Williams '12
  • Sport: Women's Basketball
  • Year: Junior
  • Hometown: Evanston, IL

Last week was Williams' best of the season.  She scored a season-high 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the Prairie Fire's 63-62 Midwest Conference win at Grinnell College (the team's first MWC victory of the season). Williams had a team-high 10 rebounds to go along with seven points in 23 minutes at St. Norbert College the next day.

Williams is currently third on the team in scoring at 9.4 points per game and is the squad's top rebounder at seven per contest. Williams has stepped up her game in league play, averaging team bests of 11.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.

This is Williams' first Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award.


Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (14) - December 8, 2010

  • Hometown: St. Louis, MO

Kassabaum had outstanding performances in the 500 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard Backstroke, and 100 Yard Backstroke for the Prairie Fire last week.  Her time of 5:40.20 in the 500 Free established a new season-best mark by a full 11 seconds and earned her a sixth place finish out of the 41 other competitors. She also posted a second place finish in the 200 Yard Backstroke, was fourth in the 100 Yard Backstroke and 11th out of 72 swimmers in the 50 Yard Freestyle.

Kassabaum also was instrumental in the Fire's successful finishes in the 800 and 400 Yard Freestyle relays.  Kassabaum, fellow juniors Rachel Clark (Newton, Iowa) and Sara MacDowell (Rockton, Illinois), and senior Krista Ahlberg (Longmont, California) took part in the 800 Free, which finished fourth. Kassabaum, Clark and MacDowell teamed up with sophomore Amanda Lee (Palatine, Illinois) for a fifth place finish in the 400 Free.

This is Kassabaum's first Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award. 


Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (12) - November 24, 2010

Kozak had a huge game in the Prairie Fire's 81-79 OT loss last Thursday night.  He recorded game-highs in points with 28 and rebounds with 14.  He made 11-of-15 shots, including 4-of-5 from three-point range, and added two assists against the Dutch.

Kozak shot 75 percent from the free-throw line while averaging 18 points and 10.5 rebounds, both team-highs, in the Prairie Fire's first two games.

This is Kozak's first Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award.


Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (11) - November 17, 2010

Senior wrestler Edel Vaca finished second in the 133 pound weight class November 13 in the season-opening 2010 Knox Invitational.

Vaca, who was seeded as the number two wrestler in his weight class, finished the weekend with a 4-1 record. Vaca's only loss was in the championship match of the tournament. He helped Knox finish with 48.5 points, good for a 10th place finish.

This is Vaca's first Prairie Fire Performer of the Week of Award.


Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (10) - November 10, 2010

  • Hometown: Newton, IA

Clark had two first place finishes and second place in another event to start the season November 3 against Monmouth College.  Clark's nearly unbeatable performance against the Fighting Scots helped earn her the Prairie Fire Performer of the Week honor.

Clark won the 50 yard freestyle, finished second in the 100 yard freestyle and anchored the Prairie Fire's winning 200 yard freestyle relay team that edged Monmouth by just one tenth of a second in a very exciting race.

This is Clark's first Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award.


Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (9) - November 3, 2010

Moreno placed 30th at the Midwest Conference Cross Country Championships with a time of 27:08. His finish in the 8K race was the best for a Prairie Fire men's runner at the conference meet since 2004. Moreno helped his team to a 7th place finish with 209 total points, which was the best point total for the Fire men's team since 2004.

This is Moreno's third Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award this year.


Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (8) - October 27, 2010

  • Sport: Women's Soccer
  • Year: First-year
  • Hometown: Golden Valley, MN

Koene posted her second shutout of the season during the Prairie Fire's Homecoming, a 1-0 victory against Midwest Conference foe Beloit College. The shutout was her second against a MWC team this season. The last time the feat was matched was during the 1996 season.

This is Koene''s first Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award.


Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (7) - October 20, 2010
  • Name: Clarke Cuthbert '12
  • Sport: Football
  • Year: Junior
  • Hometown: Oak Park, IL

Cuthbert had a career day at Illinois College.  He earned the Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award after hauling in eight catches for 242 yards against the Blueboys. Cuthbert's performance also resulted in him being named the Midwest Conference's Offensive Performer of the Week and to the D3football.com Team of the Week.

Cuthbert is the second straight Knox College football player to be named to D3football.com's national Team of the Week.  Senior linebacker Kevin Beck (Chicago, IL) received the honor after intercepting three passes and tying a school record as the Prairie Fire defeated Grinnell College at the Knosher Bowl.

This is Cuthbert''s first Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award.


Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (6) - October 13, 2010
  • Name: Kevin Beck '11
  • Sport: Football

  • Hometown: Chicago, IL

Beck was at his best against Grinnell College.  He intercepted three passes and made six tackles, three of them unassisted, to help Knox earn its first win of the season against the Pioneers 31-21 at the Knosher Bowl.  Beck was also named to the D3football.com national Team of the Week and was selected as the Midwest Conference Football Defensive Performer of the Week for his efforts.

The three interceptions by Beck tied a school record held by seven other individuals, including head football coach Chad Eisele. Eisele accomplished the feat September 23, 1989 against Lake Forest College.

This is Beck's first Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award.


Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (5) - October 6, 2010
  • Name: Jessica DeMory '11
  • Sport: Women's Golf
  • Year: Senior
  • Hometown: Schererville, IN

DeMory turned in a 5th place finish in the Midwest Conference Championship October 1-3 at Aldeen Golf Course in Rockford, Illinois. DeMory shot rounds of 90, 90 and 89 for a 269.

The numbers from the league she plays in reveal what her teammates and coach already know about her: DeMory is among the elite golfers in the Midwest Conference. Her scoring average through seven rounds of play was an 86.7, or just seven-tenths of a stroke behind Morgan Zuleger of Carroll University, who had the third best individual scoring average.

This is DeMory's first Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award.


Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (4) - September 29, 2010

  • Sport: Women's Soccer
  • Year: Junior
  • Hometown: West Des Moines, IA

Swanson caused major problems for opposing teams, scoring nine goals in Knox College's last five matches. She has now scored in five straight contests, including multiple goals in three of the five.

Swanson scored both goals in the Prairie Fire's 2-1 victory last Wednesday against Robert Morris College in Springfield, Illinois. She scored the only goal in Knox College's 3-1 Midwest Conference loss to Grinnell College at home Saturday and both of her team's goals in a 3-2 loss Sunday at Cornell College. Swanson was also named the Midwest Conference Offensive Performer of the Week in women's soccer.

This is the first Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award for Swanson and the second consecutive week a women's soccer player has received the honor.


Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (3) - September 22, 2010

Dorman had a dominating week to be named the latest Prairie Fire Performer of the Week recipient. She led Knox to two victories last week, scoring three goals in the Prairie Fire's win over Lincoln Christian andtwo more against MacMurray College. She was also named the Midwest Conference Offensive Performer of the Week in women's soccer for efforts on the field.

This is Dorman's first Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award.


Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (2) - September 15, 2010

Moreno has been named to his second straight Prairie Fire Performer of the Week honor after crossingthe finish line 22nd overall out of 137 runners in a time of 27:12 at the Midwest Classic held September 10 at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois.

Moreno finished his first college race in a time of 27:43 - good for 18th place out of 96 runners at the Earlybird Invitational hosted by Western Illinois University. His performance at WIU earned him the 24th all-time best individual cross country time at Knox College. This week he moved up four more spots to 20th all-time at Knox.

This is Moreno's second Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award.


Prairie Fire Performer of the Week (1) - September 8, 2010

Moreno received the honor of being named the first Prairie Fire Performer of the Week of 2010-11 following his outstanding season-opening performance September 3 at the Early Bird Invitational hosted by Western Illinois University.

Moreno finished the 8K race with a time of 27:43. That mark was good for 18th place out of 95 runners and it helped Knox College place sixth among the eight participating teams. In addition, after just one race, Moreno earned a spot in the Prairie Fire record books. He now holds down the 24th all-time best individual cross country time at Knox College.

This is Moreno's first Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award.
