Les Hunter assists his alma mater as a long-time member of the Prairie Fire coaching staff. He was a four-year starting pitcher for Knox and graduated 1977.

Originally from Canton, Illinois, Hunter became part of the Knox baseball staff after retiring from Verizon Wireless.   His son Kyle, also a pitcher, was one of the top-rated high school baseball players in Illinois at Galesburg High School.  Kyle Hunter went on to have an outstanding collegiate career at Kansas State University and finished the 2013 season pitching for the Jackson Generals of the Class AA Southern League, a Major League Baseball affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.

Besides assisting the Knox baseball squad, Les Hunter also serves as the director of the George Washington Gale (GWG) Scholars Program. The program was created by Galesburg School District 205, Carl Sandburg College, and Knox College in 1996 to enhance the academic preparation and encourage the academic aspirations of talented young people from economically challenged backgrounds.
