Steve Cheesman returned to his alma mater to work in the athletic department in September of 2014. Cheesman, who has had a long and distinguished career in education and coaching, has a variety of roles in the department working with athletic alumni and local businesses. He will also be an assistant baseball coach.
Cheesman taught for 34 years, most of them in the Galesburg School District, and has served as a coach and administrator for numerous sports at the junior high, high school, and college levels for 36 years. Â He has coached baseball, boys and girls basketball, football, boys golf, boys and girls track, wrestling, youth hockey, youth soccer, and been a clinic presenter for both baseball and basketball.
Cheesman is currently the head boys golf coach at Galesburg High School and has managed the Galesburg American Legion Post 285 baseball team since 2003.
“I look forward to helping our programs, athletes, staff, community, and alumni have the richest experience possible, "Cheesman said of his role at Knox.  "Knox College offers so much to everyone associated with it. I want to do whatever it takes within my position to further that excellent experience," he added.
Cheesman graduated from Knox in 1980 with a B.A. in education and minors in English, social studies & psychology.
