Meredith Witherell was named head men's and women's tennis coach at Knox College in August of 2017. Witherell has experience with the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) as a professional and director of tennis for the Galesburg Tennis Management Group.
Witherell has strong ties to the Galesburg area and local tennis associations. She has previous experience at Knox working in the Lincoln Studies Center and the Office of Student Development. She also has been an instructor at Carl Sandburg College for the last nine years.
Witherell is a graduate of the 2018 NCAA Women Coaches Academy class #46 that was held in Denver, CO. The NCAA Women Coaches Academy, hosted in partnership between WeCOACH and the NCAA, is a 4-day educational training available to NCAA coaches of all experience levels, and is designed for women coaches who are ready to increase their individual effectiveness by learning advanced skills and strategies that directly affect their personal and team success.
Witherell received a certification from the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) in July of 2019. As a PTR certified instructor, she joins thousands of coaches and instructors worldwide in a renowned system of continuing education for tennis.
A native of Colorado, Witherell has lived in the Galesburg area for nearly 20 years. She graduated from Colorado College with a B.A. in Psychology and went on to earn her M.A. in Gerontology from Western Illinois University. She is a lifelong tennis player and still plays regularly.
