Harned led Knox with four goals, among the most by an individual in a single match in men’s soccer history, and added an assist in a
7-1 win at MacMurray College on September 19.
His effort has earned him the Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award.
Knox, with the victory, took possession the inaugural traveling Ferris Trophy. The two schools began the annual competition with the match in Jacksonville and next year’s contest for the hardware will be in Galesburg.
Harned scored his first goal at the 22:00 mark of the match as the Fire led 2-0 at the break. He scored three more times and assisted on a fourth goal in the second period to finish with a remarkable nine points in the contest.
Harned leads the team in points (14), goals (6), and game-winning goals (2) while he’s tied for second in assists (2). He’s ranked second in the Midwest Conference in goals, points, goals per game (0.75), and game-winning goals.
The Prairie Fire, after defeating Monmouth College 2-1 on September 22 for the men’s soccer team’s first Midwest Conference win in nearly four years (September 27, 2008 against Monmouth), goes for a third straight victory on September 26 at home against Eureka College. The match begins at 2:00 p.m. at Jorge Prats Field.
