Knox College Prairie Fire

Senior Maxwell Gatyas (Plymouth, WI, Plymouth Comprehensive) made the most of the Prairie Fire's Homecoming and Senior Day game against Lake Forest College, which entered the match at Knox leading the league with a 6-0 record.

Gatyas sank a penalty kick at the 60:02 to give his team a 2-1 lead it would never relinquish against the Foresters.  The win was the first for Knox over Lake Forest in men's soccer since the 1999 season and kept the Prairie Fire in the thick of the race for a spot in the four-team Midwest Conference Tournament for the first time since 1988.

The goal by Gatyas was his sixth of the season, and his third game-winning goal.  Gatyas leads the Midwest Conference in assists and assists per game.  He's also third in the MWC in points and points per game, and tied for fifth in game-winning goals.  In addition, Gatyas ranks third among all NCAA Division III players in both assists and assists per game.

The Prairie Fire (12-3, 5-2 MWC) visit Carroll University for another important Midwest Conference match on October 26 at 1:30 p.m.
