The Knox College men's soccer team will have some time to figure out where things went wrong Wednesday evening in Dubuque, Iowa.
Knox, which had a two-match winning streak snapped last Sunday at home following a 2-2 tie in overtime against a good Webster University squad, lost at the University of Dubuque 12-1.
The Spartans (5-1) outshot the Prairie Fire 43-5 overall and 20-3 on goal. Junior goal keeper Robert Porter (Tucson, Arizona) was busy all night long. He wound up with eight saves and saw his goals against average go from 3.08 before the match to 4.06 afterwards.
Dubuque opened the scoring at the 3:12 mark of the match, one of nine first-half goals. The lone tally for Knox (2-6-1) came just before the 36th minute when first-year forward Avinab Rajbhandary (Nepal) scored on a header off of a corner kick by first-year midfielder Maxwell Gatyas (Plymouth, Wisconsin). The goal was Rajbhandary's second of the season. Gatyas was credited with his
fourth assist.
Knox has a 10 day break before resuming play with a Midwest Conference match at home October 2 against Lawrence University.
The Prairie Fire fell to Lake Forest College 4-0 in their only league contest to date back on September 4. Lawrence is 5-2 overall and 2-0 in MWC tilts.
