Thomas Receives All-MWC Honors in Men’s Soccer

The sophomore defender led the Prairie Fire with six goals

GRINNELL, Iowa — The Midwest Conference revealed its all-conference teams in men's soccer today with Knox College defender Ethan Thomas earning a spot on the second team.

A sophomore from St. Johns, Antigua, Thomas provided big plays from one side of the pitch to the other. He started all 16 games for the Prairie Fire and led the team with six goals despite attempting only 11 shots, nine of which were on goal. In each of the first two contests of the season, he scored to help Knox earn a 2-2 tie, then put another one in the net to lift the Fire to a 2-1 win over Coe College. Thomas also provided the game-winner in a 3-1 win over rival Monmouth College in the first home night game in program history, and scored twice in a 4-0 blanking of Lawrence in the penultimate match. On the other end of the field, he was a key cog in the Knox defense that ranked third in fewest goals allowed (1.13 per game) in the conference.

The league also announced the sport's major awards with the Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year honors going to Peter Cirbo and Alexis Flores of Lake Forest College, respectively. Lake Forest also received the received the Coaching Staff of the Year after leading the team to the regular-season and tournament titles while going undefeated in league play. The Newcomer of the Year award was bestowed upon Eziah Hernandez of Beloit College.

The Prairie Fire ended the season with a record of 7-5-4 overall and 3-4-1 in the Midwest Conference to place seventh in the standings.
