Galesburg, IL - The Prairie Fire dropped its last match of the season at Jorge Prats Field on Saturday to surging Lake Forest College 5-1.
The Foresters (12-2-3, 4-2-2 MWC) remain alive for a spot in the Midwest Conference Tournament after winning three of their last four matches and tying in the other. Lake Forest will need to beat MWC champion Carroll University on the road Sunday to make the tourney.
Knox (1-15, 0-8 MWC) was forced to play from behind after surrendering a goal to Mahir Mameledzija of LFC just 1:11 into the match. The Foresters added another goal at 21:20 by Stephen Egan to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission.
Lake Forest scored twice in the 50th minute and again at 68:35 to extend the advantage to 5-0.
The Fire prevented the shutout when sophomore Maxwell Gatyas (Plymouth, WI, Plymouth High School) got a shot by LFC goalie Ian Taylor at the 71:00 mark. Senior Jeremy Shaw (Columbus, OH, Franklin Heights High School) earned the assist.
The Foresters outshot the Prairie Fire 23-9 overall and 15-5 on goal. Sophomore Franz Huebner (Heredia, Costa Rica, Lincoln School) had 10 saves in goal for Knox. Taylor recorded four saves for LFC.
The seven seniors for the Prairie Fire who suited up for that last time at home were Marcos Moreno (East Moline, IL, United Township High School), Luca Rajola-Pescarini (Rockford, IL, Keith Country Day School), Jack Barthell (Bloomington, MN, Jefferson High School), Shaw, Peter Michener (Chesterfield, MO, Parkway Central ), Sujeen Adhikari (Kathmandu, Nepal, Himalayan White House International), and David Aken (Sinton, TX, Sinton).
