Springfield, IL - A golfer for the Prairie Fire who got hot at the end of the regular season led her team to a sixth place finish and earned a medal at the three-round Midwest Conference Championships.
Knox was in seventh place after the first round October 7 at the Rail Golf Course. Junior Mia Savard (Menifee, CA, Paloma Valley) led the team with an 85. She followed with an 85 in the second round on October 8 to help move the Prairie Fire up to sixth in the team standings.
Knox, after shooting a 468 in the first round, shaved off 35 strokes for a 433 in round two to move ahead of Illinois College (415-497).
The Prairie Fire kept its hold on sixth place with a 466 in the third round while the Lady Blues shot a 487. Knox finished with a score of 1367, 32 strokes ahead of Illinois College's 1399.
Savard carded a 97 in the third round and finished with a 267. Following a tiebreaker, she placed eighth overall -- earning a medal and All-Midwest Conference recognition.
Savard shot a career-low 83 and finished in a tie for second place the previous weekend at the Grinnell College Invitational, earning her the Midwest Conference Women's Golf Performer of the Week.
Carroll University shot a three day total of 1005 to capture its third straight MWC Women's Golf championship. Grinnell College placed second with a 1028 followed by Ripon College (1107), Monmouth College (1123), and St. Norbert College (1172).
Carroll's Angelina Parrinello shot a 237, including a 76 in the second round and a 79 in round three, to take first place. Grinnell's Mallory Messin (245) was second overall.
Also participating for the Prairie Fire were sophomore Sarah Martin (Crown Point, IN, Merrillville), junior Monica Price (Rochester, IL, Rochester), and sophomore Lizzy Rodgers (Homewood, IL, Homewood-Flossmoor). Martin and Price both finished with scores of 323 to tie for 30th place. Rodgers finished with a 454.
The Prairie Fire resumes play in April of 2012.
